I'M BANDED!

I am back in the UK from Belgium, sporting a brand new band! The experience wasn't anything like I thought it would be, but my husband got off work Friday and was able to be there before I went into surgery, so that made things a LOT better. I'm still in quite a bit of pain. I feel like my stomach is gurgling and churning and burning like crazy. They discharged me from the hospital Saturday morning, but I ended up having to go back because I was throwing up my water and pain medicine. I'm still somewhat worried. Did anyone else experience this at first? The port area is a little sore, but it's nothing compared to what is happening inside my body.

  1. CONGRATS!!! And welcome to the other side, you will love it here! Nah, I didn't throw up but was in AWFUL pain the first couple days. It will pass, just get through a few days and you will feel better.

  2. I didn't throw up, but several people on the ukgastricband forum I follow did and I think it's due to the anaesthetic. Don't worry, you'll be just fine and you'll soon be as good as new. My advice would be to keep sipping protein shakes to keep your strength up and keep moving around periodically to keep the wind moving so you don't suffer too much with the pain. Don't be impatient as you're port is likely to hurt a few days in and don't do too much (ie lifting) too soon. Keep in mind in two weeks you'll feel like a new woman, this bit will all pass away before you know it. Feel better soon. xx

  5. First, CONGRATULATIONS BANDER!!!! And, yes, I did get nauseous and had the dry heaves in the hospital. If it continues ask for a prescription for nausea as vomiting at this point isn't a good thing for healing. You'll be rounding the corner soon with the pain...I was surprised once it started getting better how fast I got back to normal.

  7. Welcome!! I had a similar experience. I had to stay an extra night in the hospital as I couldn't get all my water down. It eventually worked itself out and I was fine, but definitely kinda scary.

    Good Luck! <3

  8. Congratulations on your band! I haven't had surgery yet myself, but have read that a lot of people experienced nausea and that they can give you meds for it. Don't be afraid to ask for some. Take care of yourself!
